IML is an international marching association which helps the organization of 1 special march per country.
IML marches can be walked in almost every country in the world and only requires an IML passport which can be bought at an IML stand at your first IML walking event.
examples of IML walks are; Nijmegen-The Netherlands, Viborg-Denmark, Rotura-New Zealand, Arlington-USA, Yogyakarta-Indonesia, Seefeld-Austria and many more. The IML event per country is mostly held in a city or area that might not be visited very often by tourists but is super beautiful in its own way.
When walking an IML, you must have the official passport which is needed to put the official stamp in after the event. every IML march has its own unique stamp which you can only get in your passport of you walk a minimum 0f 20km per day for a minimum of 2 days. This standard differs however when a person is considered old, then he/she only has to walk a minimum of 10km per day.
with every walk or achievement in your passport, you can buy a unique reward after the walk. this, however, is something I will talk about in another blog entry.
first blog: about me
As you might have seen from the blog title, my name is Lucas and I am 16 years old. I have been walking organized marches since I was 12 and I have loved it ever since. my passion for walking started when my grandpa and I decided to walk the 4-day march of Nijmegen in 2011. He sadly passed away a year later, so I never got to walk with him. I did start walking the 4-day march of Nijmegen and this year (2019) will be my 6th time.
my mother and I are the only ones that walk a lot in our family, so we occasionally walked some trails in Holland the first few years until in 2016 we heard of IML. our first IML was in France-Chantonnay where we met a lot of people from all over the world and made lots of friends. because we had so much fun, we decided to go to another IML afterward which was Luxembourg-Diekirch. here we also met some of our new friends from France, but we also made new friends there. that was how the cycle continued and nowadays we have walked 12 IML’s together.
- 1 time in Norway-Verdal
- 1 time in Denmark-Viborg
- 1 time in France-Chantonnay
- 1 time in Lithuania-Jurbarkas
- 1 time in Belgium-Blankenberge
- 3 times in Luxembourg-Diekirch
- 1 time in England-Wellingborough
- 3 times in the Netherlands-Nijmegen
we have walked 12 events in 8 different European countries which has made us European walkers with a silver medal. this topic will be addressed in another blog entry. I started with this blog because I noticed that IML is not being represented on the internet so not everyone gets to get the beautiful experiences I had. I wanted to share more information and my own experiences with IML for fun. I hope people will enjoy it
